Informed by data from the CF Insights database and recent survey input, this presentation highlights national trends among small and growing community foundations, the unique sustainability and growth challenges they face, and examples of promising practices and opportunities from across the country.

  • Community Foundation Business Models (PDF, 3.08 MB) - Community foundations are as distinct as the communities they serve, so each must have a business model tailored to meet the unique philanthropic needs of its community, right? Well, yes and no. Even as community foundations become more numerous and diverse, data shows some trends in business model evolution across the field. This presentation characterizes several business models being employed by community foundations, and explores ways that community foundations are responding to an evolving financial and technological environment, changing donor expectations, and new community needs.
